Sailing at the Whitsundays

By mid-October, we escape for a week. Together with eight friends, we chartered two yachts at the Whitsundays in Queensland: Six on the big ("smoker") boat and four on our smaller ("non-smoker") boat. After we went shopping to be stocked for a week we set sail at Hamilton Island. The Whitsundays are a group of islands at Australia's east coast south of the Great Barrier Reef. Tropical climate. The majority of the islands are national park without residential development and almost all bays contain a coral reef. We sail during the day, set anchor in the afternoon and go for a swim or snorchel. The evenings are dominated by cooking with the whole group, eating, and drinking. One week far out of reach...
